Homicide: Life on the Street

Homicide: Life on the Street is an American police procedural television series chronicling a fictional version of the Baltimore Police Department's Homicide Unit's work. It ran for seven seasons on NBC and was succeeded by means of a television movie, which acted as the de facto series finale. The show was predicated on David Simon's book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. Many of stories and the characters were centered on events depicted in the book, which has been part of this basis for Simon's own show, The Wire on HBO. Although Homicide featured an ensemble cast, Andre Braugher emerged by his portrayal of Frank Pembleton as the series' breakout star. The series acquired Television Critics Association Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Drama at 1998, 1997, and 1996. In addition, it became the first drama ever to acquire three Peabody awards in 1995, 1993, and 1997 for best drama. Back in 1997, the episode"Prison Riot" was ranked No. 32 on television Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time. In 2007it was listed as one of Time magazine"Greatest television shows of All-TIME." Back in 1996 Television Guide named the series'The Very Best Show'. The series set #46 on Entertainment Weekly's"New TV Classics" list.
