My Uncle Benjamin

Manette, the innkeeper's lovely daughter, is in love with Benjamin, but she won't marry him until she sees the marriage contract, and Benjamin's sense of independence doesn't allow it. For the same reason, he refuses his sister Bettine's marriage proposal to Arabelle, Dr. Minxit's daughter. Benjamin agrees to meet with the girl. On the way home, he meets up with Manette, who is arrested by her father. As a result, she chooses to accompany Benjamin herself. But a run-in with the obese Marquis ends the expedition. The Marquis humiliates Benjamin. Benjamin is hell-bent on exacting his vengeance. He succeeds owing to the handsome Vicomte Hector de Pont-Cassé, who also aids Manette in her father's case.
